Job Description

Methodist Health System is seeking a dedicated Police Officer PRN to support the safety, security, and law enforcement needs of our hospitals and clinics within our Healthcare & Medical Services network. In this PRN role, you will work on an as‑needed basis to provide a visible, professional law enforcement presence that helps protect patients, visitors, physicians, and staff, while safeguarding Methodist Health System facilities, property, and sensitive information. Guided by our culture of integrity, compassion, and accountability, you will partner closely with clinical and non‑clinical teams to maintain a secure, healing environment that supports high‑quality patient care. As a Police Officer PRN, you will conduct routine patrols of hospital buildings, parking areas, and surrounding grounds to deter crime, prevent loss, and quickly identify potential safety or security hazards. You will respond to emergency calls, disturbances, and security alerts, taking appropriate law enforcement action consistent with departmental policies, state law, and healthcare regulations. Duties include investigating reports of theft, assault, vandalism, or suspicious activity; preparing accurate incident, arrest, and supplemental reports; managing evidence; and coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners when needed. You will play a key role in emergency preparedness and response by assisting with critical incidents such as codes, disaster responses, elopements, aggressive or disruptive individuals, missing persons, and active threat situations. The position requires sound judgment and the ability to de‑escalate tense situations using verbal communication, crisis intervention techniques, and minimal necessary force, always prioritizing the safety and dignity of patients and families receiving medical care. You will assist clinical staff with the safe restraint and transport of combative or high‑risk patients in accordance with hospital policies and legal requirements. This role involves enforcing Methodist Health System policies, state criminal and traffic laws, and applicable regulatory standards on all system property. You will monitor access to restricted areas such as emergency departments, surgical suites, and behavioral health units, verify identification badges, and support visitor management processes. Additional responsibilities include traffic and crowd control, escorting patients, staff, or visitors when appropriate, assisting with lost and found, and participating in risk assessments and security audits of facilities and departments. Methodist Health System values collaboration and inclusiveness, and as a Police Officer PRN you will build professional relationships with nurses, physicians, ancillary staff, and leadership to proactively address safety concerns. You will provide security‑related education and guidance, including participation in safety drills, active threat training, and workplace violence prevention initiatives. Clear, respectful communication with individuals in crisis, diverse patient populations, and their families is essential, along with the ability to document and testify accurately when incidents result in legal proceedings. The ideal candidate has prior law enforcement or armed security experience, preferably in a healthcare, hospital, or similar high‑stress environment, and is comfortable working flexible, irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational need. Candidates must hold a current Texas peace officer license or equivalent state law enforcement certification, maintain weapons proficiency, and meet all physical, medical, and background standards required for commissioned officers. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related fields is preferred. This PRN position offers an opportunity to serve the community by protecting some of its most vulnerable members in moments of medical crisis. By joining Methodist Health System’s Safety, Security & Law Enforcement department, you will contribute directly to our mission of improving and saving lives with compassion and high‑quality care, while working in a professional, team‑oriented environment that holds integrity, accountability, and service to others as core values.
