Job Title Oil and Gas Field Inspector I Scope The position covers Okfuskee County. The candidate must reside within 100 miles of the furthest point of their territory. Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are involved in the regulation, inspection and investigation of oil and gas exploration and production facilities and operations. This includes enforcement of state and federal laws and Commission rules through inspections, investigations, and complaint response related to pollution control, environmental protection and production of oil and gas reserves. Typical Functions Performs investigations in response to complaints of rule violations and environmental pollution to determine sources and identify possible causes. Performs inspections of drilling, transportation and production facilities to determine compliance with Commission rules pertaining to environmental protection and waste management. Responds to and investigates threats to public safety resulting from well blowouts and other hazards. Oversees environmental remediation efforts and performs follow‑up inspections to ensure compliance with guidelines and instructions. Walks up and down stairs, walks and climbs uneven terrain, walks along creeks, rivers, tall weeds and brush, and climbs fences and brush piles. Witnesses tests and records data on well production potential, gas/oil ratios, bottom‑hole pressure, mechanical integrity, fluid levels or other tests required to ensure compliance. Researches the history of specific abandoned wells to determine responsibility for plugging; may determine priority and placement on the state‑funded plugging list. Provides testimony in Commission hearings regarding findings of investigations and actions taken. Level Descriptor This is the basic level of the job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing routine entry‑level work in a training status to build their skills in conducting inspections and investigations, responding to releases and complaints, and acting as a liaison between the Corporation Commission, the industry and the public. Education and Experience Applicants must have four (4) years practical experience in oil field production and drilling operations, as mandated by statute (52 O.S. § 149(8)). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Candidates must possess knowledge of basic oil field drilling, production and plugging practices and methods; investigative methods and procedures; environmental and health protection related to oil and gas industry activities; record keeping; and rules pertaining to oil and gas production and pollution abatement. They must be able to conduct routine investigations, obtain and present routine evidence, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Special Requirements Applicants must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at the time of employment and maintain it while employed. They must be willing and able to perform all job‑related travel. The job is primarily conducted outdoors in all weather conditions. Physical requirements include walking long distances in rural or urban areas with uneven terrain, working in extreme heat or cold for extended periods, lifting, pushing and pulling at least 25 lbs, and possibly encountering wildlife. The position is safety sensitive as defined by Oklahoma Statute 63 O.S. § 427.8. Additional Job Description Core work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm. The schedule may require flexibility based on agency needs. The position is not remote‑work eligible. Benefits 15 days accrued annually during the first 1 – 5 years of service. 18 days accrued annually for 5 – 10 years of service. 20 days accrued annually for 10 – 20 years of service. 25 days accrued annually for over 20 years of service.
