The core purpose of the Department of Surgery is to improve the surgical care of patients in Oklahoma. This is accomplished by providing state of the art care to our patients, providing the finest quality surgical education to our fellows, residents, and students, improving the skills and knowledge of our surgical colleagues through continuing education programs, and expanding surgical knowledge through our clinical and basic science research programs. General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. RN I represents the nurse who is a novice or an advanced beginner advancing to competent. While advancing from novice to competent, the nurse relies on rules rather than principles which are independent of specific situations. The advanced beginner may have enough real experience to begin to formulate principles.
Essential Responsibilities
*Minimum Qualifications (RN I): Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: 0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute operating room environment or employees with less than one (1) year of acute operating room experience may substitute experience with the completion of department orientation or completion of RN residency program. License/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute operating room environment or employees with less than one (1) year of acute operating room experience may substitute experience with the completion of department orientation or completion of RN residency program. License/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
*Minimum Qualifications (RN III): Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Nursing preferred. Experience: 5+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute operating room environment or employees with less than one (1) year of acute operating room experience may substitute experience with the completion of department orientation or completion of RN residency program. License/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Specialty certification(s) preferred.
